Our Founder & Director, Joan Izzo Joan Izzo is a professional dancer, choreographer, and dance instructor, as well as a trained and certified K-12 teacher. Joan has studied with renowned dancers such as Martha Graham, Phil Black, Jose Limon, Charles Weidman, and Twyla Tharpe. After training hundreds of promising dancers in studios throughout Northern Virginia, she opened the doors to her own studio, The Joan Izzo Academy of Dance, in 1996. Joan Izzo is the creator of the acclaimed dance curriculum, "Oceans of Motion." |

"Oceans of Motion" is a comprehensive, multi-level program that has met with extraordinary success because it is fun, technically challenging, and developmentally-appropriate for each age level. The goals of the "Oceans of Motion" program include: - Promoting individual creativity, self-confidence, and self-discipline - Refining gross motor skills - Increasing strength, flexibility, spontaneity of movement, and poise - Enhancing musical awareness - Improving attention span through the use of rote memorization and sequential learning |
